Reed Howell, LMSW

Psychotherapist
pronouns: they/them

Reed received their Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Michigan State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Reed is a Licensed Masters Social Worker under the clinical supervision of Kate MacShane, LCSW-C.

Reed is licensed in Maryland and is able to provide telehealth sessions to clients physically located in the state. They see clients in person in our Frederick office.

Reed is a nonbinary, white, neurodivergent therapist who hopes to cultivate therapeutic relationships with warmth and gentleness. They believe in the power of connection to our bodies, to our creative selves, and to each other.

Reed has worked as a caretaker for children of all ages and is inspired by children's ability to be their full selves and explore the world through play. Reed hopes to provide relational therapy that draws from Internal Family Systems and, at its core, creates opportunities for clients to reach those childhood parts of ourselves that we learn to keep distant. Reed has completed EMDR Basic Training with Deany Laliotis of the Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy and is particularly passionate about using this modality to help clients explore the roots of their experiences and find new ways forward.

Reed has conducted research on the effects of trauma and continues to place emphasis on the trauma that many face navigating systems that seek to oppress and dehumanize. They have facilitated groups for adolescents focused on anger management, self-esteem, and identity. They have also volunteered as a crisis counselor, where they were honored to connect with and provide support to queer adolescents and young adults at vulnerable moments in their lives.
